Natural Sources of this nutrient in foods
About 650 - 700 mg of Isoleucine per day is needed
for an average daily intake. It is present in almonds, cashews, chicken, eggs,
fish, lentils, liver, and meat.
How it is used by the body
Isoleucine is an essential amino acid. It is part
of the three "branched chain amino acids". Because of this it is
extremely useful in repairing proteins and muscle tissue.
Studies have shown that people involved with
strenuous athletic activity or under extreme pressure and high altitude may
also benefit from Isoleucine.
Effects if this Nutrient is not present
Deficiency of Isoleucine may include symptoms of
headaches, dizziness, fatigue, depression, confusion, as well as irritability.
Symptoms of deficiency might also be similar to those of hypoglycemia. This
nutrient has also been found to be deficient in people with mental and physical
disorders.
