Selenium
is used in small doses to make selenoproteins. These proteins are essential for
antioxidant enzymes, which help prevent cellular damage from free radicals.
Free radicals may contribute to the development of cancer and or heart disease.

Effects
if this Nutrient is not present
Selenium
is needed for the immune system to function normally as well as the thyroid
gland. Not enough selenium may result in an enlarged heart or heart failure.
Some people whose digestive systems do not function are fed selenium through an
