Overview

The Science Department at Elk Grove High School include biology physical science, chemistry, and physics, advanced placement courses and elective, semester courses. The department is continuing its implementation of process based programs that are recommended by both the State of Illinois and the National Science Teachers Association.

The programs emphasize practical application of science concepts and inquiry learning. The major idea is that students learn how to apply the scientific method for future learning potential rather than memorizing large volumes of information that might soon be forgotten. Students have textbooks and lab books or packets as resources. Often information gathered in class or given in the form of handouts, that they must apply, is organized into a notebook that they can access as needed.

Due to the success of the district technology program, the creative efforts of our teachers, and the support of the administration, a number of science classes are taking innovative approaches to learning.
