DebateThe Elk Grove High School policy debate team is one of the best in the state of Illinois. In the last several years EGHS debaters have won multiple ISTA state championships and placed several students on the IHSA 'all-state' team. In 1996 an Elk Grove policy debater was named the ISTA Outstanding Student at the Secondary Level. In addition, Elk Grove hosts a number of widely-attended debate tournaments each year.
EGHS policy debate is also highly competitive at the national level. Two students placed 13th in the nation at the National Tournament of Champions in the spring of 1997. Policy debaters also won the Dartmouth Debate Institute, placed 4th in the Greenhill Round Robin for the top 32 debaters in the country, and won top awards at Wake Forest, Emory, Northwestern, and Samford Universities.
Along with the speech team and Lincoln-Douglas debate, Elk Grove policy debate was selected as 1 of 10 schools nationwide to receive the Phillips Performance award for excellence, placing it in the top 1% of National Forensic League chapters nationwide.
