Group Interpretation
Speech Team

Group Interpretation is just that. It is the group interpretation of literature.
Imagine twelve to twenty people all telling a story at the same time. Sometimes
the performers speak in unison as a group chorus. Sometimes the performers
act out separate characters. This IHSA speech event is also known as
"readers' theatre" or "chamber theatre." Elk Grove has a long history competing in this event:

1990 "The Big U"
1991 "Modern Manners"
1992 "What Cops Know" (IHSA State Qualifier)
1993 "A Thurber Carnival" (IHSA State Sixth Place)
1994 "Wenceslas Square"
1995 "Bleacher Bums"
1996 "The Stinky Cheese Man" (IHSA State Third Place)
1997 "What the Dogs have Taught Me" (IHSA State Qualifier)
1998 "Who Am I This Time?" (IHSA State Qualifier)
1999 "Prozac Diary"
2000 "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs"
2001 "Plan 9 from Outer Space"
2002 "The Producers"
2003 "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" (IHSA State Qualifier)
2004 "What Cops Know"
2005 "Math Curse/Science Verse"

Auditions for group interpretation are usually held at the end of January.
The sectional and state competitions are usually held in March.
