Benjamin Franklin ChapterMembership in the National Honor Society, a nationwide organization honoring outstanding students, is open to juniors and seniors at Elk Grove High School who have demonstrated excellence in four specific areas: scholarship, service, leadership, and character. The induction process begins in February. Juniors and seniors are academically eligible for membership if they have a cumulative grade point average of 4.700 or higher. The NHS Faculty Council then considers interested students for membership on the basis of their character, service, and leadership in school activities. We encourage students not only to maintain a high academic standard but also to become involved in a variety of extracurricular activities and service projects in preparation for consideration as a member of NHS. Members are expected to maintain the same high standards that qualified them for initiation into NHS. Current members plan and participate in monthly service projects. Membership may be rescinded for inappropriate behavior which is considered demeaning to the student or the school. Adviser: Mrs. Mary Szczypta (email: mary.szczypta@d214.org)
