PERFORMANCES

Orchesis carries the responsibilities of an extremely busy performance schedule. The following information will hopefully give you an insight to some of the performances the club presents. Several of the performances are in conjunction with the District Dance Teachers Association and its performances.

District Performances

There are three major performances that are sponsored by the District 214 Teachers Association --

Artist in Residence

During the spring, professional teachers/choreographers are contacted to become our ÒArtist in ResidenceÓ for the fall of the following school year. These choreographers are contracted to spend approximately three to four days with each of the districtÕs Orchesis clubs. During the class time, dancers will take classes, work on technique and eventually learn a dance that will ge presented after six individual workshops are completed.

In October, the lecture demonstration, usually held at Rolling Meadows High School, is presented. Dancers from ALL six District 214 schools gather on the gym and perform the techniques learned in class. Following this section, the audience is encouraged to ask questions of the artist. During this session, the dancers change into their costumes, return to the gym, and perform the dance that they have been practicing.

Not only are there rehearsals at each school but there is ONE major rehearsal for all 214 schools! The rehearsal for all schools will help each of the dancers to combine together for one unified performance. Additionally, evening rehearsals and classes are highlighted to feature the male dancers of the district.

Homecoming . . . .

Members of the Orchesis Club build a float, march in the parade and perform in either the Homecoming Pre-Grame or Half-Time Show. Homecoming dances are choreographed by students. Practices begin during the summer workshop. Refining the dances are completed during September. Several of the upperclassmen volunteer to perform at the Coronoation Assembly which proceeds the parade.

Variety Show - Holiday Assembly . . . .

Rehearsals begin following Homecoming. Performance in this activity is strictly on a voluntary basis. Music is provided -- dancers and choreographers stay later to work on their dances. Dancers that will perform will rehearse with the cast of the Variety Show.
