Service Learning

Known as Academics In Action, Service Learning is a teaching method that enhances learning by engaging students in meaningful service activities within Elk Grove High School and its surrounding communities. Through integration with established curricula, lessons gained from these services heighten interest and enhance academic achievement, citizenship, and character development. Service Learning embraces young people as an asset and community resource. The program consists of a number of different projects that provide volunteer opportunities for Elk Grove High School students. Programs that are currently in place offer experiences in the following areas: intergenerational, tutoring and mentoring, buddy program, day care, social activism, government, technology, environmental awareness, charitable events, and outdoor challenge. By viewing all people in a democratic society as citizens with the capacity to contribute, no matter their age, Service Learning allows its participants to take on real-life issues and help communities change for the better.
