SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE RESEARCH PAPER |
GENERAL SPECS
l. The research paper must be word processed.
2. The margins, except where otherwise specified, should be...
TM = 1" BM = 1 " LM = 1 1/2" RM = 1"
3. The TM on page l of the paper should be 2". Your title should appear at the top of this page.
4. The pages should be numbered consecutively, starting with page 2 of the text.
5. Characters per inch should be set at 12.
6. The paper should be double spaced.
7. The paper should not contain corrective marks.
8. Citations should be placed in parentheses right after the borrowed material. You should not have a citation in the middle of a sentence. The period goes after the parentheses.
9. If a direct quotation will exceed four lines in the paper, omit the quotation marks and set off the quote by indenting each line about 5 spaces. This long quoted material should be double spaced. You must introduce the speaker before you write the quote; your citation will include that page number only.
10. If you find it necessary to insert personal comments within quoted material, the personal comments should be set off by brackets [...]
11. When you use less than the entire quotation, use ellipsis to represent the omitted material (...)
12. When the quoted material forms a grammatical part of the sentence, the first word of the quotation is not capitalized.
13. When you recognize an error in a direct quotation, insert [sic] after the error to let the reader know that it is not your error.

2. Center the title; it should not be in all capital letters; it should not be underlined, it should not be in extra large text. In other words, your title gets no special treatment.

1. The outline should be the first page after the title page.
2. Top margin should be 2". The other margins are the same as the paper.
3. Do not include the introduction and conclusion in the outline.
4. The title of the paper should appear 2" from the top and centered (not in bold or caps or underlined.)
5. The thesis statement should appear four lines below the title.
1. The works cited page is the last page of the paper; it includes only those sources you actually used in the paper.
2. The top margin of this page should be 2".
3. The first line of each entry begins at the left margin; it is not numbered.
4. Subsequent lines of the entry should be indented 5 spaces.
5. The entire page should be double spaced.
6. The page should be titled Works Cited--no caps, bold, underlining.
