COLLEGE APPLICATION DEADLINES: IT IS EACH SENIOR'S PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY TO KNOW WHEN THEIR COLLEGE APPLICATION DEADLINES ARE!! ...AND TO KNOW WHEN THIS MEANS THEIR RED ENVELOPE MUST BE TURNED INTO THE COLLEGE CAREER CENTER TO MEET THEIR DEADLINES! Seniors were informed during the September, 2009, Senior Guidance sessions, and this information also appears on the front of the red envelopes seniors use to apply to college (for both on-line applications and paper applications), that the College Career Center requires 10 full in-school days to:
• obtain the student's official transcript(s)
• complete (IF required): counselor evaluation form(s), Common Application Secondary School Reports, and obtain a letter of recommendation from the counselor if required. Priority Deadlines, Early Action Deadlines, and regular deadlines vary from school to school. Seniors must find out when their college applications' deadlines are, and make a timeline using their student planner or a calendar in order to meet the 10-day College Career Center's deadline. Application deadline dates are posted on each college and university's website. SPECIFIC UNIVERSITY DEADLINE NOTES: • This year, the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign (UIUC), has a November 2, 2009 (postmark), priority deadline. In order to meet the 10 day processing deadline with the College Career Center, due to the shortened school day on October 30th, and since November 2nd falls on a Monday, the College Career Center will need to receive the UIUC red envelope (reflecting a completed application) by: 3:45 PM, Monday, October 19, 2009. • The deadline for red envelopes to be turned into the College Career Center for schools with a November 15, 2009, deadline will be: 3:45 PM, Friday, October 30, 2009.
• If you are planning on applying to: Illinois State University, Northern Illinois University, Southern Illinois University, Western Illinois University, University of Illinois Chicago (UIC), or any other Illinois public state school, the priority deadlines vary from school to school. Check the schools' websites for exact deadline dates, and then: ALLOW 10 FULL, IN-SCHOOL DAYS FOR THE CCC TO PROCESS YOUR APPLICATION(S). THIS IS IMPORTANT!!! • LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION Illinois public state colleges and universities do not require letters of recommendation. Most private schools will require some form of a recommendation. Seniors need to become thoroughly familiar with the application requirements for each of the schools to which they are applying, and if letters of recommendation are needed, the senior must make appropriate contact with a recommender and provide the recommender with: • a minimum of two weeks, or whatever time allotment the recommender requires to write and mail the rec materials • a complete list of the schools which will need the letter(s) of recommendation and their deadline dates • a completed "Letter of Recommendation Information Form," available in the College Career Center • if required, any teacher evaluation/recommendation form(s) • properly addressed (use a pen and print) envelope for each of the schools requiring rec materials Recommenders will mail the letters on their own. Recommendation letters are not typically given to the student for the student to mail.
PLEASE REMEMBER, THE COLLEGE CAREER CENTER CAN ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS AND HELP YOU! Also, most questions can be answered by reviewing the booklet all seniors were given called: "How to Apply to College"
