1. Personal/Social: Counselors assist students in understanding and expressing themselves, how they relate to others and how their thinking, feeling and behaviors shape their personalities. Students are assisted with decision-making strategies, how to interact effectively and how to assume responsibility as they acquire more independence. Counselors provide individual and group counseling to students with personal, social, or emotional problems or refer to appropriate community resources as needed.
2. Career/Vocational: Counselors identify competencies that assist students in learning about career and life planning. Students are encouraged to identify their abilities, interests and values and explore career possibilities and opportunities. This includes Counselor participation in a comprehensive assessment program administered yearly for all levels of students. Counselors assist students with development of a plan about their future and how to make a successful transition from high school to college or the world of work.
3. Academic/Educational: Counselors assist in course selection, scheduling, and monitoring academic progress toward graduation, encouraging each student to develop to his/her maximum potential. This involves consulting with teachers, staff and parents as needed regarding the academic and developmental needs of students. Counselors identify students who may be in need of additional support services, case study evaluation or alternative educational settings.
