Mid-Suburban League (MSL)

Elk Grove High School has participated in the Mid-Suburban League since the league's inception in the late 1960's. Competition in the Mid-Suburban League has grown from athletic competition to include competition in non-athletic activities such as the Scholastic Bowl, Speech and Individual Events, and in the last two years cheerleading. The schools that make up the Mid-Suburban League are divided into Two Divisions. Theses Two Divisions will be realigned beginning in 1998. The realignment will be based on a "East, West" geographical delineation which happens to also fit into a school population breakdown between the larger schools and small schools. The two Divisions are:

 East Division

 West Division

All of the High Schools belonging to the Mid-Suburban League operate under the bylaws of the Illinois High School Association. The League also has a Constitution

which is periodically updated. Any changes requested by coaches in their particular sport are addressed every other year when Code changes for the sports are discussed and voted on by the Athletic Directors and Assistant Principals For Student Activities from the prospective schools. The overall guiding organization of the Mid-Suburban League is the League Board of Control made up of the Principals from the member schools. The Board of Control reviews the decisions of the Athletic Directors and Assistant Principals and is the sole decision maker especially in personnel and financial matters. Their decisions when something as large as League realignment

is considered can then be reviewed by the Superintendents of Schools from the three Districts making up the Mid-Suburban League. These Districts are 214, 220 and 211.

Since it's inception the Mid-Suburban League has provided a competitive spirit laced with the need for sportsmanship in any competition. As the future unfolds the Mid-Suburban League will meet changes with a flexible, progressive attitude.
