Deans named for Elk Grove, Rolling Meadows high schools

The High School District 214 Board of Education recently named two educators as dean of students at Elk Grove and Rolling Meadows high schools.

Edgar Rivera was appointed as Elk Grove’s dean of students. Rivera has served as dean at Elmwood Park High School since 2015. Additionally, he was the dean of students at Proviso West High School from 2014 to 2015.

Rivera began his teaching career in 2008 as a physical education teacher. Prior to being an educator, Rivera was a professional soccer player with Chicago Storm. Rivera, a proficient Spanish speaker, holds a bachelor’s degree in physical education from Western Michigan University and a master’s degree in education leadership and administration from Concordia University.

At Rolling Meadows, Janice Aponte was appointed dean of students. She currently serves as dean of students at Round Lake High School. From 2015 to 2016 she served as a behavior interventionist and from 2011 to 2013, she worked as a world languages teacher at Round Lake High School, teaching Advanced Placement Spanish courses to a diverse array of students with varying ages and abilities.

Aponte, a proficient Spanish speaker, holds a bachelor’s degree in secondary education from Northeastern Illinois University and a master’s degree in educational leadership from Concordia University.
