Orchestra Calendar

Concert Orchestra 01791/01792
This orchestra is for intermediate and advanced students and is the orchestra that incoming freshmen typically play in.  It rehearses every day during sixth period.  The Concert Orchestra presents 4-5 concerts a year, participates in the IHSA Solo and Ensemble Contest, the IMEA District VII and All State Music Festivals and the Orchestra program’s student recitals.  Concert Orchestra is a full credit class.

Symphony Orchestra 01831/01832
This orchestra rehearses 4th period.  The Symphony Orchestra presents 4-5 concerts a year, participates in IHSA Solo and Ensemble Contest, the IMEA District VII and All State Music Festival and the Orchestra’s student recitals.  Private lessons are strongly encouraged for all Symphony members because of the challenging music being performed.  This Orchestra includes members of the EGHS band program and performs music from the standard orchestral repertoire. Symphony Orchestra is a full credit class.  Students must audition and be accepted by the director to become a member of this orchestra.

Both Orchestras travel during the school year to events such as the U of I Orchestra Consortium in Urbana, IL.  Every three years the Orchestra program goes on an international performance tour.  The next international tour is scheduled to take place in 2009.

Additional playing opportunities open to members of the Concert or Symphony Orchestra.

Honors Chamber Orchestra  (String Ensemble) 01901/01902
This is a new class for the EGHS Orchestra program and members will need to be flexible while it’s in the beginning stages of development. The Honors Chamber Orchestra is for the student who is more advanced and motivated.  This group presents 4-5 concerts a year at school and also performs outside of school in the community.  The community concerts are often in conjunction with local church choirs. This orchestra is also for student who wants to have the chance to solo with an orchestra.  The Honors Chamber Orchestra is a full credit class and meets four mornings a week before school.  Students must audition and be accepted by the director to be in this orchestra.

Pit Orchestra
Every year in the spring the Music and Drama Departments produce a Broadway musical.  Students who want the experience of performing in pit orchestra audition in February.  Rehearsals begin in March and are after school.  The pit orchestra is and extra-curricular activity.

District 214 Honors Symphony
This Orchestra rehearses on Monday nights at Buffalo Grove High School and presents two concerts a year, one in October and one in March.  Membership in this orchestra is open to all students who play in their school’s band or orchestra program.  This orchestra is for students who take private lessons and are very advanced technically on their instrument. Auditions for placement in this orchestra are held every spring in late May or early June.
