Recent Elk Grove High School graduate Carissa Lehning was recognized by the Board of Education on August 9 for being named to the 2017-2018 Daily Herald All-Academic Team.
Lehning is one of 10 students from throughout the northwest suburbs, and one of two from District 214, who earned this honor. John Hersey High School’s John McDonough was also named to the Daily Herald’s All-Academic Team and was recognized earlier this summer.
Students are chosen for this prestigious honor by a panel of judges who review applications and use a point system to rate nominees on various criteria, such as GPA and test scores; the number of Advanced Placement and honors courses taken; co-curricular and community involvement; and a student-written essay relating academic achievement to life goals.
Lehning had an amazing four years at Elk Grove High School. She was very active in both the speech team and badminton team. This past year, she went downstate with the Speech team where she finished ninth in the state in radio speaking. Academically, Carissa graduated with highest honors and received a perfect 36 on the ACT and a 1570 on her SAT.
