Dear EGHS Families,
It is with great sadness that I must inform you that Alexa Rodheim-Cutler, an outstanding English Teacher and Water Polo Coach at EGHS, has passed away after fiercely and fearlessly battling cancer for over two years.
Most urgently, it is important that you know our Student Services staff is ready to serve in any capacity your students may need. Counselors from Elk Grove High School as well as other District 214 schools are on site to work with any student in need.
As I write this message to you, I can't help but express how blessed and inspired I feel to have known and worked with Mrs. Rodheim-Cutler. Every single day, she embodied the Elk Grove High School spirit of challenge, support, and patience for EVERY student. She tirelessly embraced the sacred role of teacher and coach, pouring endless energy into profoundly shaping the future of each child she encountered in the classroom and in the athletic world.
As some of you may know, Alexa garnered many well-deserved accolades in a teaching career that was far too short. She was an ISBE "Those Who Excel" Award recipient. She was a National Board Certified Teacher. She was a Golden Apple Award Finalist. However, she did not care for one moment about individual honors; all she cared about was changing the lives of kids. Watching her work with kids was a true pleasure. She combined a warm heart with a no-nonsense approach that students simply could not resist.
If you knew Mrs. Rodheim-Cutler well, you know that she was one of the bravest, toughest fighters you've ever met. She never backed down from a challenge. She never lowered her expectations of herself, even in the face of illness. She absolutely NEVER gave up on a student. Alexa Rodheim-Cutler set an amazing example for us and for all of her students--an example of tenacity, strength, and empathy. She loved Elk Grove High School with all her heart, and we will forever love her in return.
As soon as we are able to share it, more information will follow regarding Ms. Rodheim's wishes and memorial services.
Once again, please know that our outstanding Student Services staff is ready to serve in any capacity your child may need. If your student needs support, please do not hesitate to seek it. While it may be impossible for you to reach your child's individual counselor on Monday, please contact us at 847-718-4401 if you believe that your student is in distress. No one should face the pain of loss alone, and we will band together to get through this extremely trying time. Mrs. Rodheim-Cutler would have expected nothing less from this great school.
