The PSAT/NMSQT is an optional exam for high-achieving juniors and sophomores. It measures verbal reasoning, critical reading, math problem solving, and writing skills important for success in college.

The PSAT/NMSQT (Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) will be administered at Elk Grove High School on Wednesday, October 11, 2017.

Why take the PSAT?

  1. We encourage juniors who are in the top quarter of their class to take the PSAT because it identifies National Merit Scholars for the class of 2019 and enables students who score at the highest levels to qualify for college scholarships. Sophomores can take the PSAT as practice.
  2. The PSAT can also be used as a predictor for SAT scores. It allows students to compare their academic skills with those of other college-bound students.

The SAT is one of the two most common college entrance exams. Most colleges and universities accept both the ACT and SAT.  This year the State of Illinois will be administering an SAT to all Juniors.
